Your mama's DNA make up!
Your dada's DNA make up! (Part of our 10 year anniversary gift idea!)
Here you are at 2 years 4 months old! We took a 3 week road trip and you were AWESOME! Our little gypsy baby. A rock star waking up in a different city every morning. We brought your "cozy nest" along so that helped you feel comfortable.
New sayings and doings this month:
You constantly ask questions and create conversation (something strengthened on our road trip when you had to communicate with so many different people etc) You asked Aunt Shaye when you noticed her cut on her leg "aunty Yay Yay? You got a boo boo? You fall down? You were running? You tripped? You fall in a ditch?"
You say in the cutest voice "Wook it! You see that? You see that right there?" for everything you notice.
You do the funniest pig oink. We walked into Seattle's REI and you were sooo excited you started snorting. We asked you "are you being a fun hog right now?!"
You told Gwama Wama you wear a life jacket and you can swim all by yourself!
I talked with you on the phone when I was out running errands in Seattle and you said "Mama? Aunty Yay Yay coming home soon. You petting Moki?"
You recall stories and experiences from the day and tell us about it. You remember experiences from weeks/months ago. You remembered sooo many things from last summer at Granda Lama's house (and you were only 16 months old then!!!)
You got your first big boy hair cut by a very tattooed, pierced, dread locked and shaved gal at Rudy's barber shop in Seattle and you weren't phased at all. You look so much more grown up now!
At the Dragon Park on MI, you were about to go down the slide and said "Mama, what you doing?" and I said "I'm ready to catch my sweetie pie". So from then on, every time you went down the slide you'd say "Ready? Catch my sweetie pie?"
You still tell me "I can't like that" or "I can't want that" for anything you don't want to hear/do.
You sing constantly. You know all your ABC's, you love All about the Bass, you sing and do the motions for head shoulder knees and toes. And Boomdiada from Wee Sing. You love to sing eensie weensie spider in the shower.
You are very into trains and planes and balloons. When we landed in Kona you wanted to fly again! Please!?? Everyone laughed. I think we could take you on a long flight to Europe since you are sooo good on the plane!
You start preschool next week!! I can't believe it!

Two Years 3 Months
Biggest news this month: We moved into the "new house". You tell people "HUGE house. New House. Alistair built it. With the dingo!" And since moving into the new house, you moved into a big boy bed. Well, you call it your cozy nest, and it's a travel inflatable toddler bed that we will be taking on our road trip this summer. Since moving out of the old house, we've had some rough nights, lots of waking up at 1am, 3am and so on. Some nights you sleep the WHOLE night, so hopefully it gets easier and easier. Before I bed you and I chant a little duet. It goes
Me: "Alistair is going to sleep the whooooole...."
You: "Night"
Me: "He won't get out of bed till the....."
You: "Morning"
Me: "If he gets scared or sad he should....."
You: "Hug Bam Bam"
Me: "And Alistairs knows that mommy and daddy are...."
You: "Riiiiiight there"
Here are some of your latest sayings and doings:
You say "I can't want it" or "I can't like it" when you don't want to do something. Our godson Oliver said those same phrases when he was 2 and Alex and I thought that was so funny 8 years ago.
You are obsessed with books. Some days we spend hours cuddled up in bed reading. You've memorized the entire book "I'm Dirty". You love Papa Get the Moon. Good night Moon (my favorite as a child!) And any book about diggers and trucks.
Like a parrot, you constantly say in such a cute voice "Hey Mama, what's goin' on? Dada, how you doing?" When I ask you how you are doing you say "Pretty good!" When I call your name looking for you, you say "I'm right heeeeere!" We were taking a family walk and dada was teaching you not to walk in the middle of the road. You would stay on the shoulder for a few seconds but then wander back into the middle. Dada sternly said "Alistair! Look where you are? Where are you?" and you thought about it and proudly pointed to yourself and said "Right here!" We both cracked up.
Sometimes you will say "Goodbye! See you next week!"
You hold up a pretend phone and say "Hello?? I can't HEAR you!" (I wonder where you learned that from?)
You love to pretend to pressure wash. Your memory is amazing. One time learning. You can recount what you did and saw, and you talk about certain memories from when you were around 20-22 months old (Gwama Wama's house. Rocks. Alistair dump them in the red car. Tunnel, eages, Gwama's white car) You got to visit your new school and watch dada paint. You had a blast playing the the Russian Nesting Dolls, and still talk about them. If I say something you agree with you reply with this funny accent "A haaa" (like a fancy "uh huh") And you still do this funny thing where you will say something like "Alistair go outside?" and I'll say "You want to go outside?" and you say excitedly "OK!" like it was my idea. Now that it's summer we've had some fun high schoolers babysit you. I love seeing how friendly and outgoing you are. You blow kisses to strangers. You still love pretending you are cat. You've been doing a lot more make believe. (frisky puppy after a bath. pretending to pour and drink coffee). You love to say "whats that?" and lately I've been playing a game where I tell you it's something totally wrong to make you laugh. Like you'll point to a ceiling fan and say "Mama, what's that?" and I'll say "That's....a banana" and you laugh and say "That's not a banana!" and the game goes on and on! It keeps you amused and entertained when we have to stand in long lines.
You love playing in the "jungle" (bushes)
You know the ENTIRE alphabet, and also the entire songs to Twinkle Twinkle and Eensy Weensy spider. You love the song "Boom di ada" from the Wee Sing CD in the car. You can match pitches and can remember the same pitch for a few minutes.
You continue to be the most happy, most well behaved, and sweetest little love. Each stage I find myself wishing that it would last forever, but you just get more and more fun!

2 Years 2 Months
The neighbor girls were saying "You new house is so big!" and you said "It's HUGE! Alistair built it. Used the dingo....scooooooop. Build it"
Grampa Michael was sick. You remember and I said "No, Michael is all better now!" and you said "Tutu fixed it!"
You often say: "Alistair's Job! No mama don't dooooo that!" (you are very assertive and bossy! haha)
You remember things after just one time. It blows everyone away. Seriously, we only need to say the story once, or something happens etc, and you will remember it forever. At Grama Lama's condo we watched helicopters take off and land. You still remember. Lisa had a bowling game on her ipad. You say "Lisa. Bowling. Fire! (on a strike, there was a fire graphic. Knock bottles over (talking about the pins)" You fell from standing on the chair and the health food store. You remember hurting your ear. At GG Ruth's house, you remember playing with her precious stone collection and scooping them into the candle.
You are still adjusting to our move. Just a few more weeks until we are in the new house. You have been waking up around 3am-5am needing a "tigger bup" and sometimes you will fall back to sleep with me in bed until 5:50-6:15am. I can't wait till we get back on schedule. At your 2 year check up you were 36% weight, 68% height. 99% head. Skinny, Tall, with a big head. You are SO animated. And so funny. You have been loving "cozy cozy" time playing in bed reading books. You make up little games. This week you had to take just the purple pegs from a puzzle and roll them down the slide in the back yard. You loved playing "dinner" with your tea pot set plates and spoons "This one Michael's dinner" You are VERY attached to Bam Bam your special panda. You've been holding your poop, but have been loving your peepee potty time and wearing big boy training underwear! You love being nudie too! I just really enjoy being around your wonderful spirit. I cherish my weekends where I get to just hang out with you. I'm so glad you are my best little buddy!

25 months
In two weeks you turn 2yrs 2 months, so I better get your 2yrs 1 month post completed! We celebrated our third easter with you little bunny! You are just getting cuter and cuter and funnier and funnier! The biggest news is that we finally moved out of our old house. It was an amazing 10 years in the beautiful home we built. But dada has been working hard at building us our "new house" as you say. You have adjusted to this change like a champ, and the best distraction of all was a week long visit from Grandma Lama (you call her Gwama Wama) and Lisa. We spent the entire week down at the Hilton and you loved the slides (Tubey one mama!) and the sand bottom kiddie pool (you laughed so much when Grama Lama talked about the Kiddie Pool and we realized you thought it was KITTY POOL! haha). Other funny stories: I made you popcicles and you had a fit when I tried to explain that they take a few hours to freeze and that right now they were just juice. We distracted you with a swim session at the pool and when we came home you excitedly exclaimed "Pocksibles done! Juice frozen!" and when I couldn't take the popsicle out of the mold Grama Lama decided to run some hot water over the mold and you cried "NO! Not HOT water! COLD water! I want ICE not juice!" It was sooo funny.
You love pretending to be a meow kitty kitty. You always say "Nice and cozy" when you snuggle up somewhere. You love listening to me tell the Ice Age squirrel story (about the mommy squirrel deciding where to put the couch and she says "mmm uh uh!" and points across the room and the daddy squirrel says "MMM??!" you just laugh and laugh and say "Again story mama!". You don't like the idea of baths or showers except at the beach park, but once you are in the bath you have a great time. You are awesome at using the potty. Everytime you go you say 'fruit snack!" and run to me for a fruit snack treat. Anytime you see us using the potty you say "Yay Daddy! Good job! Fruite snack!" This week you are just happy using the potty and don't expect a fruit snack each time. I just ordered you training underwear since you are doing such a good job!
You do NOT like the wind. Anytime you get upset or uncomfortable or insecure you say "Tummy hurt!" But I think it's just your way of explaining that you are scared. Playing with a pinwheel in the wind and calling wind a big fan has helped quite a bit. This week in Waika"blowa" didn't seem to phase you at all.
We've had a few playground incidences and you don't like playing with others at the moment. In fact if you are playing happily with your excavators and dingos that we bring to the playground and another child approaches you you start singing the "clean up" song and want to just pack up and head back to the car so we can go home and you can play with your toys without sharing! There was a 40 pound 1 year old who pushed you and you would cry "Baby coming!!" anytime he got near. There were also some rough but adorable big girls being too rough around you and Phoenix and when they left you said "Girls GONE! Yay!!"
We had an interview for your new preschool that you will start in August. Dada said he ALMOST started crying when we walked through the door. We just can't believe you are old enough for SCHOOL! It is such a wonderful space and when I took you a week later to drop off some papers you said 'Mama! So nice!! Alistair go play!" I think you will like it there! You will go 3 days a week for just 3 hours. I am the one who's not ready for a full week day! hehe.
You LIVE for the dingo. And when you hear it you say "Dingo running! Ride dingo?" Dada gives you rides and you've learned all the controls and when you play dingo with your toys you say "Lift! Scoop. Dump. Forward. Up. Down!"
When you are having a fun time and I come near you will say "Bye bye mama. Go do piano"
You love Hungry Hungry Caterpillar and will say "Hungry Caterpillar build a cacoon. Turn into beeeautiful bafly!" When Grama Lama came to visit she asked "what does a caterpillar build?" and you took awhile to think about it and glanced over at dada's desk and you said "A...ca...omputer!!" and we laughed! So now you always say a caterpillar builds a COMPUTER! to be silly!
You don't like the word no and it's hard to explain or reason with you, but you are easily distracted onto the next activity. You are very sensitive and have the saddest pout and big eyes when we have to do our serious mean mommy/daddy voice. But for the most part you are hilarious little guy with a HUGE personality. We just all love watching you talk and tell stories and strut around the world.

TWO YEARS OLD!

Somehow a year flew by! Make that TWO years flew by! You are a two year old now and I just can't believe it! We had the BEST birthday party in the world last weekend. We had it on Saturday, which was the day of the week you were born. (Somehow your birthday on Monday just didn't feel like your birthday, since I so vividly remember it being a Saturday!) We had a bouncy house which was a hit for all ages; a Steel Drum jam along with me, a bean bag toss (I had to make my own since the one I ordered didn't arrive on time!); a water table with tons of bath toys; a slide, swing, bubble mower, excavator yard activities; a blow up pool that squirted water; Dr. Seuss themed snacks, Dr. Seuss themed goodie bags, pizza, and carrot cake cupcakes! The weather was PERFECT (and Waimea can be so unpredictable!) The backyard of Michael and Tutu's house was the perfect setting. Everyone had the best time!
New sayings and doings at age 2:
You constantly ask everyone "How you doing?" in the cutest voice. Sometimes you'll say "You you doing? Pretty good!"
You say "thank you so much" to Erica and other people when we run errands in town.
When I'm done teaching I open the door and you squeal while running towards me "Mommy done!"
You still love the game "Sit down pens" in daddy's office.
You are obsessed with minions. You said "Daddy purple minion" the other day.
You say "Oh no! Happened!" if you notice something askew
You sing the song "Happy Birthday to you". At your party you sang along with everyone and made everyone laugh. Your clap at the end of the song was the BEST.CLAP.EVER!! I have it on video! I almost cried seeing you so incredibly happy.
You sing a few words of Eensy Weensy Spider. And still love it when I do the motions to the song.
At naptime you like to chant in a monotone voice. Last week you said "Arrrrrrrr. Noise dada makes" (I think you were talking about a saw). You also said "Chainsaw. Dada building new house!"
I have to hide veggies in your mac and cheese and poke. I take frozen organic veggies and put them in the food processor and pulverize them into a fine dust and then sprinkle it on your dinner to get veggies in your diet! You LOVE poke. I make smoked salmon poke for you with sesame oil and soy sauce because I do worry about tuna and mercury!
You still like to say "Umm, think so. Probably" (imitating us on the phone).
You love Movie night! Ice Age! Minions. I now have to negotiate and do bath time first (you are very anti bath at the moment!) before movie night. Otherwise I'll never bathe you. Somedays you sleep 7-7 (but whenever I brag about this we seem to have rough nights, so knock on wood!)
I cherish our mornings with you. One of us goes in your room and you say "Mama upstairs! Tigger bup upstairs!" (or dada upstairs if it's me getting you in the morning). Then you drink your tigger bup in bed with us and play for about a half hour. You love to pretend you are a kitty. Or hop on pop. We enjoy you so much Alistair. To our brightest star on his second birthday. We love being your mama and dada more than we could have ever imagined! It is such an awesome gift to be able to raise such a kind, loving, polite, gentle, hilarious, sensitive, busy, friendly and happy soul. You inspire us, challenge us, and fill our hearts so full of love it leaves us breathless.
(Your birth date is technically Monday the 23rd, but you were born the 3rd Saturday of March and we had a wonderful party for you with all your friends today!)

Soon to be The Big TWO!!!
I know we still have 2 weeks to go, but I had to write down some of your latest sayings and doings!
You have been telling "stories" lately. My favorite highlight was one night you were standing next to your slide last night and you were telling daddy and me a story about a piggy. It went something like this:
"Piggy. Dark. Night. Dada bite. Piggy Dada bite in night!" interspersed with lots of munchkin mumble. And I said "the daddy piggy bites?' and you looked at us with wide eyes and said "Yyyah!" We of course cracked up!! You answer with that funny dutch accent "Yyyah!" for lots of things which makes us laugh. The other day dada said "When will this rainy cold weather end!" and you mumbled something that sounded like "blah blah blah week" and I said "Another week??" and you looked at me point blank and said "Yyyah?"
When I'm all done teaching and I walk out of my room you smile and cheer "Mama all DONE!!!" It's so cute! You also say "Mama teaching! Dada working!"
The other day I was pretending to talk on the Elmo phone and I was talking about all the things we had done that day. And you were contributing and recalling things we did earlier that day! Your memory is AMAZING! You even remember things from January on our trip to Seattle. "Grama. Tunnel. Cars. White car. Lights. Dark tunnel! Eagle fly!"
We went to visit Great Granda Gigi Ruth on PopPop's 90th b-day. You got to play with her precious rock collection and scoop them up and put them in a candle and then dump them out and repeat the whole process (kept you amused for 20 minutes easy!) and to this day any time I mention Ruth you say "Gigi. Rocks. Candle!"
You discovered picking things up with your toes! You do a super cute excavator impression of "Beep beep, DUMP!" You like to push things around like your slide and say "Beep beep EKA VADDER!!"
You discovered movie night on our giant projector. And everything you request "Movie Night!!" and sometimes we DO do movie night! And one night you squealed "Movie Night!! Mama cut the pizza!!" (even though we weren't having pizza that night!) You love the minions from Despicable me. And most night we request "Movie Night! Minions!" But you are also VERY sensitive to anything scary or upsetting. I don't want to create nightmares, and I've noticed a HUGE difference between G and PG movies!
OK what's up with the super sonic, ear blasting, high pitched screaming for no reason?? I'm trying a new method of just straight up ignoring the behavior and not reacting to it at all since nothing else seems to work. And by the way, I seriously googled "is it ok to use a water spray bottle to squirt at toddlers to deter bad behavior". I guess it's really frowned upon :)
Knock on wood. You are sleeping 7pm-7am and when we come get you you will say "Tigger Bup, upstairs dada!" (or mama if it's daddy walking into your room). Meaning you want to drink your Tigger Cup of milk upstairs in bed with us.
You detest baths and showers at the moment and I have to force bathe you every 2-3 days. I swear boys need a bath twice a day, but that's just me....
Your FAVORITE food is poke, pinapple, ham, eggs, pears, banana, bread, and cheese. But getting you to eat has been a challenge lately. I swear you would just drink whole milk and be 100% content.
You LOVE breakdancing. You ask me and Grandpa Michael to breakdance. I think I'd break my back trying to even pretend.
You have been using your potty to go peepee often. One night during nudie movie night you flew off the couch and ran to use your potty! You get pee pee treats (goldfish).
You say the FUNNIEST things on the baby monitor when you have quiet time. "No cookie monster. No eat cookie. Fox, no drink pee pee. No pee pee on floor". Putting you to bed now, all we have to do is lovingly say "Mama's right here. Dada's right now" and you will chant those words and also include people like "Yay Yay, Tutu, Poppy, Grandma, Michael, and Panda riiiiight here".
What a huge difference two years make!! I love to compare today's pictures/videos with last years pictures/videos and I'm just so amazed at how much you've changed. In my mind, you have always been as you are today. I hardly remember it being any different. I'm so glad I took so many pictures and videos, and yet it still just doesn't seem like enough. I wish I was able to record every second of every day!
